education, research and development and infrastructure. we've got to continue to do that to create these good paying jobs nrt middle class. >> as we've talked about, everyone wants good paying jobs. that's your goal, everybody's goal. about 60% of the jobs we have gotten during this recession pay less than the jobs people had before, so we're still not getting that wage growth. paul hickey said for a recovery, wed have to have $250,000 jobs a month. that's a kind of job growth we need. so, when you look at it that way, we have a long way to go, don't we? >> well, we absolutely do. that's why the president's goal is to restore economic security for the middle class. you've seen that median income grow. the question is where we're going to invest. he's invested in research and development that have created 250,000 clean energy jobs. mitt romney would cut funding for research and development. while the president has invested in education to make sure our work es have the skills they need, doubled funding for pell grants, mitt romney would cut fu funding. >> so, let me ask you another

promoting girls education. since she arrived for treatment nearly three weeks ago. matthew chance is outside the hospital. i asked him how she's doing. >> malala yousafzai, that 15-year-old activist from pakistan, is now inside this hospital in birmingham in central england surrounded by her family, recovering from that gunshot wound in the head, inflicted by the taliban. latest video, the first video in fact we've seen of the 15-year-old since she was medivaced from pakistan earlier this month to receive emergency treatment here, you see her sitting in the bed, sitting up. she's alert, she's awake. doctors say they expect her to make a full recovery, especially now that her father and mother and two brothers are around her giving her all the support that she needs. there's been a great deal of concern of course, an outpouring of support around the world for malala. she has really become a symbol of bravery around the world for what she did and for what she intends to do when she goes back, because she has every intention according to her family of going back to pakistan and continui
